Hello TD, Just thought I'd show off a CP map that I'm working on. Stob and Dom have seen the rough draft of it (before it had a sky). Now I present to you my first draft. Note that the blue side is more finished then the red. Eventually both sides will be the same. Remember this is only the first draft. There are no spawn rooms only spawn points. So download it and have a go at it. Feel free to post any insturctions or ideas on how I could make this map better. Here's a link to the download. CP1 in the glass building CP2 near the top of the windmill CP3 in the unfinished orange building Possible CP 4 at the bottom of the windmill. To Dom and Stob. You will find many changes since your last visit. A sky, The glass building on blu side, Much more narrow canyon, Caves that open behind the blu tower, PS: don't fall through space in one of the unfinished caves near the glass catwalk;) If you do just choose another character and you will respawn.

I played it at a friends house and I might buy it.
=O Boba/Jango fett pyro skin for TF2!. Why as pyro, well he has the flamethrower. >> too bad I dont know how to make models.
Another idea I gots is pl_deathstar, where you have to get the bomb from the loading bay all they way to the reactor core. and cp_deathstar where you have to make your way to the prison cells. Might work as a cp/ctf kind of map.

Cool idea mayham. Unfortinatily I'm still new at this Hammer thing. So I wouldn't be able to do it justice. The hardest thing is to find the right skin to go with the maps. And since all of the TF2 skins are mixed with the HL2 skins it gets confussing.
@Stob: I typed TF2 in the search skin area and only the TF2 logos came up:(

In waht way was the sky wierd? To me it's just very cloudy. I'll probibly change it though to bright blue with a few clouds. What did you think of the caves?

Sorry 'bout that Feathered... the texture Filter is "tf" not "TF2". This is what happens when I try to give advice without Hammer open.

the sky was taking on the color of what ever was being seen so if i looked at the windmill every time i turned the windmill blade was lag draged across the screen... i dont know if that was because of the test server or what, but the rest of the map was pritty cool

That's called the "Void". At least that's what I call it. Its a completely empty area devoid of geometry. The game engine has nothing to draw, so it redraws the last thing seen in that area over and over and over and over and over. I did make a sky! I guess you all are looking at the rough draft before the sky. My link to the first draft must have failed! Crap! Going to fix it right away. Ok try this link. But now my sky has blacked out and there isn't enough sun to really show any detail. Any suggestions?

its a canyon... so change the direction the sun shines. I'm not sure if you have it laid out on the X or Y axis, so figure out which way is right and change the pitch of the light_environment enitity.

Ok I put it (0 90 0) which is down on the Z axis. Does it mater where you put the intities themselves? Right now they are directly beneath the sky box in the center. Also I'm having trouble changeing from the default sky. I looked up the sky list here. http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Sky_List#team_fortress_2_materials.gcfand chose sky_tf2_04 as my sky. I went into the the map and then the map properties and changed the sky box name to "sky_tf2_04". But when I F9 it the default sky is gone and in it's place is blackness. Help!!!!

Sounds like you did the map properties thing right. It could be that the map isn't completely sealed. Load the pointfile (edit menu?) and see where you've got gaps to the void. There's areas where you can fall out of the map, so you're definitely got some. Or just build a giant box around the whole damn thing and hollow it out.
entities like the light_environment and round_timer don't have to be placed in any specific place, but they DO have to be within the geometry of the map. Any enitites placed outside will completely screw over the engine.

That's a shame. Check the map for errors (in the edit menu) and fix any leaks you might have (load pointfile). If the void can reach any entities like the light_environment, the whole map will be one giant error.

looking much better.
one other thing it needs: Player clipping on the top of the canyon, or demomen (and possibly soldiers) will jump up there and rain down bombs on people.
Its an easy fix: just put a giant box where you want the max jump height to be, and put the tools/playerclip material on it. It'll be invisible, and nobody can get past/through it.

Imagine all the caves and buildings that I would spend shift draging thier brushes and rotating them one agonizing brush at a time... then going back and forth making sure that every brush measure correctly on both ends!!!! All I have to say is that you all better like this map :anger:

No but you can look at this one Stobbin;) So I fixed it. Didn't bother to solve the CPs yet. There will be five of them. I have representations of them with a platform brush and an orange pillar. One in blu glass house, one in blu mines, one in windmill, one in red mines, and one in red glass house. It isn't yet a cp map but is playable for death match... though there is no protection from camping.
