Gravel Pit

Ok well this map comes up way to much, more than badwater which is very annoying and also to see people extend it so many flipping times, the map is ok but to me gets old after 30 mins, I'd rather play orange_X

So far since the last map played has been coming up in the rtv voting cycle, the maps have been:

badwater

turbine
gravelpit
gravelpit

If any else of you are sick of this please let me know because I want to play less of this map.  Badwater is my fav map and like stobbin said its fun to play but not all the time, gravel pit is my "meh" map and its coming up way to much, do you guys even really like it?

Boba untill I find a fix so that 12 vs 12 can happen on our server I'll add them, till then its max is at 8 vs 8 and people don't stay on arena maps, maybe we should make tuesdays arena night or something since there hasnt been any cool new maps that have been made worth trying.

science just seems like a big 4 way mirror map, the middle point is a bitch and if one team is able to grab the other 2 points after the middle one, it can get really annoying and hard

If you're using beetlemod you should just add "DontIncludeLastMaps 2" and after gravelpit/any map is over. you can't even vote for gravelpit til you go though 2 more maps. forces variety. that way if people on the server really do like gravel pit/any map they can extend it a few times then are forced to go to another map after say 20 mins of extra extends.

2 inteligence maps. (2 fort)(convoy)(etc.)
1 another random fun map but on a shorter server time. (mario cart)(ricklers engie jump)(scout jump)(etc.)

Here's my beef... with so many maps to choose from on the in game vote, you have 15 people all choosing different maps and only 8 or 9 people choosing to extend the current map.  But because those 15 people are all loosely split up across the 4 or 5 maps you can choose from it shows up something like:

[extend current map: 8 votes, Pl_Badwater: 5, ctf_2Fort: 4, ctf_convoy 6]

So even though the majority don't want to extend the map their voice gets unheard because of too many choices.

Now if you had the vote interface something simple like.

[Extend current map: push 1, Change maps: push 2]

Then you would have 8 on extending the map and 15 to move on to the next map in the rotation.  This would solve many problems I think.  And it would put whatever map comes up next on the rotation.  That way you move forward and actually play all the maps on rotation.

Second idea.

Maybe limit the choice of maps to two others.  Then if the majority have pushed the numbers 2 and 3 the map will change to whichever map has the highest votes.  Let my give you an example.  Lets say the votes turned out like this:

[Extend map: 9 people, pl_badwater: 5 people, ctf_convoy: 6 people]  

The server would switch to ctf_convoy because a) 11 people voted to change the map vs 9 to stay, and b) out of the two maps convoy got the most votes even if it had less then those who wanted to extend the current map.   Majority rules and the majority obviously want a different map.  

Both ideas would work but it would be simpler to implement the first I think.

I agree with Stobbin.  If the map cycle actually got to run its course things would be pretty sweet.  Its lamez when people vote extend a map thats been on for the last hour.  Maybe my attention span for maps is low  :rolleyes:

@Alfalfa  I cant play turbine on my computer, cause it says i have a different version of turbine than TD has so i think i gots a legit reason to not want it in the rotation since it shuts me out of the server for like half the day since it comes up so often.

Fenris...  Why don't you go into the map folder and delete ctf_turbine.  Steam will automatically fix the program since its a stock map now.  I had the same problem when the map first became mandatory.

just in case you have problems:
1) C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\fenriswolf\team fortress 2\tf\maps
2) Delete ctf_turbine
3) Restart steam

Stobbin it doesnt work for me like that, it hides the maps so it cant be deleted I have many issues with that right not and I can't find the maps to delete it, fenris, try validating your files, it might work....

I'm just assuming that Fenris still has the version of the map that we were playing before the map became mandatory.  They have the same name and are NOT the same file.

I think this map is a good half-way point for people who love gravel pit and those who don't.  Its the same set up, must cap them all but the twist is any order is good.  It's got a lot of Alpine elements in it so it gives a nice atmosphere too.

It started as Two for Tuesday.  Meaning 2 new maps would be tested, but since new maps are not often suggested, the old maps get played with insane plugins.

I'm not going to be able to play tonight.  But here's a beta version of a new map I worked on yesterday.  I did it in a about 2.5 hours last night.  It's a very small map in comparison to the other LARGE one's I've been working on in the past.  There are a few optical illusions in it where one side of the wall can be seen thrgough and the other side can't.  And as the map suggests, there's an easteregg.  No Cps as of yet but plenty of fun places to mess around in... especialy if you find my easteregg.  Here it is.  Enjoy!

The maps we need on the server are the ones that will not only keep people on the server, but will not drive them away from the server.  Meaning is the file small enough that they'll stick around to download it and interesting enough to play more than one round.  Shitty maps aren't just the ugly ones, sometimes the game play doesn't have enough variety.

Please let Dominator know with excessive pm's which maps A) don't suck B) keep people on the server C) aren't over 25 MB's, and D) are actually fun to play.

People seemed to respond well to both AQUA and Black Mesa despite their moderately annoying download times (Mario Kart's got a huge one and we play that often for the fun nights).

@Sobbin.  I'm relatively fast once I get the principals of the program down.  And learning the short cuts for A) making half the map selecting all and rotating to 180 degrees and b) learning how to carve means less time needing to make walls.  I just take an object and tunnel my way through it.  And I did all of this without taking speed:) lol.  

Actually this would make a good slogan for my new "Say no to drugs.  Make maps on TF2."

There are no lights.  No sun.  And no cps.  I made it in the tradition of Orange.  Which means low loading time.  It's simple but has a lot of ups and downs to keep you interested.  And like I said there is a rather large easteregg that makes it really cool.  I understand you guys are looking for something new.  When Stobbin said his over and over and over again comment I felt compelled to try and achieve that.  Have fun tonight.  If you get to my map I'm am anxious to here your thoughts about it.
