Sniper Update: Day 2
Aparantley Valve are making payload races official. Along with a new map!
It looks like it takes place during the night (I hope)
Plus 2 New arena maps!
One takes place in the saw mill and contains TF2's First weather effect, Rain!
And another one takes place in a deep chasm containing a diabolical dooms day device above a bottomless pit!
Yay for valve maps!!

It seems that the sniper gets a neat shield (With a car battery attached) To protect him from those pesky spies. Only at the cost of speed loss.
Once the spy stabs the shield, 10,000 volts of pure electricity paralyzes him! (or kill, Not really sure)
But the the sniper isn't a very crafty man and the shield will break into a million pieces after 1 stab.

I'm really saddened by this. The "weapon", if you can even call it that because you just equip it and forget about it, seems like a very poor choice for both spy and sniper. The spy won't like it for obvious reasons. The good sniper won't like it because it slows him down (how much isn't revealed) and really doesn't protect except for one stab when a good spy would see the obstacle and just shoot instead (or sap it who knows, it does have a car battery). This seems like something valve wanted to avoid. It's a deterrent for a spy doing his job and getting behind enemy lines and its a deterrent from what the update was supposed to do. This definitely makes snipers more campy as they can snipe on the battlements all they want and still have a warning system in place. I'd say I trust valve but after the last update I really don't think their judgment's entirely clear.
Edit: I sincerely hope a taunt kill is not associated with this weapon. If a sniper can get behind enemy lines to another player he definately deserves the taunt kill. Slowing the process down is ridiculous.

Not that this game is realistic in many ways but I mean come on! A car battery that shocks you?! Um..... 12 volts.... 500 amps? Shock? No.....
I don't know I don't really like any of the updates really, I mean yes there is a balance but it seems to get worse every time they make an update. The only weapon I like that they have added was the flare gun and then the sandvitch.

gah this update just got shitty 3 Revolver shots. The entire idea of the Razorback is negated. And the best part? The sniper will be slowed down, so he will never catch you with his kukri! YAY SHITTY UNLOCKS! New spy technique: Crouch in front of sniper, uncloak, shoot with revolver. They can't run away... they've got a heavy ass shield on their back and no melee weapon. I'm pretty sure the shield will be a replacement for the SMG. |

I guess I can't really saying anything about realistic values in this game, I mean a pyro can light anyone on fire with a 0.5 of a sec of flame, and spies can go completely invisible which doesn't exist.... yet... Actually, I read somewhere if one was to somehow become completely invisible, they wouldn't be able to see. Kinda ironic. I can't remember why, but they would either have to make parts of your body seeable, like your eye, or make you only a bit invisible, like that crap in the Halo games. |
