So I just got accepted to teach English in China.
I'm still pretty unsure about some things, but I'm sure I will still be able to play TF2 and stay on the forums.
I wanted to teach in Japan (because I already know about their culture and know small amounts of Japanese), but to teach there I need a couple years experience so I chose the next best place: CHINA! Free living arrangements, internet, and phone. The pay is about 4500RMB a month, which is about $680. Since the cost of living is paid for and I don't have any thing l like car payment, gas, insurance, my OWN cellphone bill holding me back, I get to pocket this money.
I will be leaving in Mid August of this year if I continue to pursue it.
Edit: I think I get paid monthly.

My mom is feeling this way too. www.TEFL.com. It's a pretty legit site. A friend of ours is teaching in Japan right now and got that job through that site. My boyfriend is still applying and hopefully he can go too. But if he can't go, I won't go. I want to experience these trips with him. Not without him. |

There's a chance it might be. My mom has traveled to China before for business. She said it depends on the area. Not all cities in China are controlled by government. So who knows really. If not, I'll figure it out. They're teaching me Chinese for free. Edited my first post. The pay is monthly. The woman I am keeping in touch with told me the pay is low, but the cost of living is also VERY low. The food is also very cheap. I still think it would still be worth the experience to go. It's not every day you get to go to China. |

Sorry for the double post. But I have declined the opportunity. I'm going to get EFL (a foreign language certification) so I can teach somewhere better for higher pay. I will be going somewhere soon! I just don't know where yet  |

There are a FUCKING LOT of people.
Don't go with your partner, it'll be hard to get a work visa if your partner goes (this is because they'll think, since you're from America, you could be agents. No I'm not shitting, my family tried to go and got turned down and we're from CANADA)
You'd sure as fuck better like rice.
You'd better be able to go weeks without meat.
Chinese schools outside of Hong Jong are run-down as fuck, be prepared to teach with students that own no books.
IF YOU ARE IN HONG KONG:
Hong Kong is fairly similar to America/Canada except they speak a different language. It's uber-capitalist so don't expect anyone to lend you money.
Financial crimes STILL carry the death penalty
You won't have any trouble finding food
AVOID STREET MARKETS. There are THOUSANDS of pickpockets in Hong Kong, you'll get shit swiped if you look like you have money (ie. look like an American)
LOTS of fucking people. Don't drive a car. Don't use a bike. WALK EVERYWHERE. Public transit is terrible in Hong Kong.
Internet is unfiltered in Hong Kong. Enjoy your TF2.
Technology is unbelievably cheap. Enjoy your bargain bin cheap video card/processor/hard drive/etc.
DON'T FUCK WITH ANYONE RICH. I can't stress that enough. You troll/make mad/disrespect/look at funny anyone rich, they likely have the resources in that city to pwn you.
