ctf or cp maps are pretty straight forward. Although payload maps can be really fun and introduce a new type of game play. When I first played goldrush i was like omfg amazingness and esplosions!

I would avoid customs for the time being. Just the official and community maps valve has put out. That way you don't have to wait forever for dls.

2Fort's where I got hooked when I played on a free weekend my first time. It took me a little bit to realize how stale it gets and move onto bigger and better things, but, that's my vote.
