..quick double-post here...
i also get to go eat and Steak 'N' Shake... Nothing says "I can't believe i ate the whole thing" like a double cheeseburger, half a plate of fries, a cup of chili with pepper sauce and a delicious Mint Shake...
A long time ago I worked at Steak n' Shake in Missouri for a day and 1/2. I was the guy who made the shakes and desserts. I had never eaten there in my life, had never made a shake in my life, and was unaware of how many shakes people ordered in the course of one hot afternoon. It was horrible. They didn't train me at all, just barked orders at me while the queue of shake orders built up. I was so happy to get out of there.
Before my shift on the second day I tried to call in sick, but the manager was guilting me into coming in with the, "
what are we going to do? this store is screwed if you don't show up! someone else already called in and I'm here all day covering for them!" I finally agreed to show up.
The place was crazy. it was a hot summer day, the place was packed with overweight adults, crying babies & whining preteens. People were furious with me because of how long it took to get their shakes, they were mad that 1 glass had more than the other, mad that the consistency wasn't to their liking, mad because the glass wasn't frosty enough... I was getting no help physically or verbally from the manager who just kept his back to everyone and flipped some burgers on the grill. When my supplies had run out for the fifth time, i told the manager I was going to the walk-in to get more ice cream. Instead i walked past the freezer and out the back door, leaving my shake soaked apron on the handle. The Manager must have known that I had no intention of ever returning because he didn't even call to see what happened or if I was coming back... or maybe he thought the mob of angry shake drinkers had their way with me and he was just wiping his hands of the situation.
A week later I went back to pick up my check for those brief hours of work. The manager was giving me a disappointing look as he handed me the envelope, but the look on the faces of the other people working there said, "Take me with you!"
I still have never eaten there.
